Indra Group has reached an agreement with CPS Group to acquire Wake Engineering’s unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) technology. The move aims to further strengthen Indra’s market position and accelerate development of capabilities in response to Spain’s Special Modernization Programs (PEM) and the significant international growth potential in the UAS sector.

The acquisition will enable Indra to accelerate delivery under the PEM, for which pre-financing has already been approved. The program envisions supplying 49 medium-range class-I UAS, some equipped with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) technology.

Wake, a CPS Group company, specializes in the design, development, and production of UAS, with flight-proven VTOL prototypes already available. Wake’s design can be integrated into the avionics and mission systems of Indra’s TARSIS family of unmanned aerial systems. All systems share a common technological base to deliver high-capability intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) support for armed forces.

With this acquisition, Indra Group will strengthen its Indra Weapons & Ammunitions division, which focuses on unmanned vehicles, anti-drone systems, precision guidance, and directed energy technologies. The operation will enhance national technological sovereignty in drones while positioning Spanish industry for short-term international opportunities favoring VTOL solutions in naval and civilian applications, offering significant future growth potential.

Indra is also positioning itself to compete for contracts under the €800 billion ReArm Europe plan, which identifies UAS as a strategic priority. Earlier this year, Indra acquired Aertec Defence & Aerial Systems, incorporating its TARSIS tactical systems into Indra’s product portfolio.
